The bridge connects a lot of communities such as Tafo main town and new site, and for the past Thirty Five (35) years no renovation has been done on it and now, the towns which rely on it risk cutting off from other communities, the assembly member of Mangoase Electoral area in the Akyem Abuakwa North Municipality of the Eastern Region has disclosed.

Seeking for clarity of the matter, the assembly member, Hon. Afari Agyemang a.k.a Agyengo told Filasco DeGeneral today-Friday, November 5, 2021, that, excessive governments have neglected the construction or rebuilding of the footbridge hence his decision to staged a one man demonstration during the assembly’s maiden general meeting yesterday-Thursday, November 4, 2021.

He said the gesture was to register his displeasure and show solidarity to his people’s livelihood and safety.

A placard written on it: “God and the people will not forgive us if we loose a life because of the Bluemich Bridge” was hanged on his neck at the assembly’s sitting on budget hearing. Meaning authorities shouldn’t wait for a life to lose before they intervene.

He said it saddens him looking at the deadly state of the bridge which poses danger to the residents adding that he’ll not rest until the foot bridge is fixed to relief the burden on his people.

He revealed that, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Hon. Gifty Twum Ampofo who doubles as the Deputy Education Minister in charge of TVET is yet to fulfill her promise to fixing the bridge.

I’ve complained to the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Alhaji Omar Bodinga too but we are yet to see development.

“All efforts have proven futile”

“The people are really suffering here and until the situation is resolve, I’m not relenting on my efforts to get it fixed”, Afari told Filasco.
