MTN Ghana to re-register 25 million subscribers by 31 July

Ghana’s telecommunications giant says it hopes to re-register most of its subscribers by the close of July

Telecommunication giants, MTN Ghana, has targeted about 25 million subscribers to re-register their sim cards before the 31 July 2022 deadline.

The Ministry of communications and digitalisation and the National Communications Authority (NCA) have directed mobile network providers to ensure that all their existing and new subscribers are duly registered with the Ghana Card by the end of July.

This exercise aims to build a system that will assist crack down on fraudulent activities and ensure accurate identification of subscribers.

Mawuli Katahena, the MTN Ghana team leader for the Volta Region told Asaase News that they are prepared to register all 25 million subscribers by the deadline.

According to him, so far 17.2 million subscribers have linked their sim cards to the Ghana Card and 11.7 million have had their biodata successfully recorded.

He advised all subscribers to ensure their sim cards are re-registered and linked with the Ghana Card to prevent any fraudulent activity in the future.

He also appealed to corporate institutions to ensure that, their service momo numbers and merchant accounts are registered.
