A/R: Peace Council Sworn Into Office new Board Members

The Ashanti Regional Peace Council has sworn into office, their new board members.

The inauguration ceremony was held at the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) conference room, Kumasi.

The newly reconstituted Ashanti Regional Peace Council board members is made up of Fr. Dr. Anthony Frangtana Naah from the Catholic Bishops Conference, Rev. Dr. Seth Frimpong Coleman of Christian Council, Apostle Bright Bill Kwabla Sosu – Ghana Pentecostal Council, Dr. Victor Osei of National Council for Christian and Charismatic Churches and Mr. Hakeem Baidoo of Ahamadiyya Muslim Mission.

Other members on the Board are Sheikh Mohammed Kamil Mohammed of Al-sunnah Muslims, Tijaaniya Muslim Group’s Ustaz Ahmed Seidu and Baffour Asabere Kogyawoasu Ababio ii.

The rest on the board are: Right Rev. Dr. Nuh Ben Abubekr and Ms. Margaret Boafo – Atiemo(RCC’s nominated persons).

Prof. Esmeranda Manful (Department of Sociology and Social Work, KNUST) and Dr. Harriet Takyi (Women in Peace Building, Kumasi), they were nominated by the identifiable groups.

And also one representation from the House of Chiefs, in the person of Baffour Owusu Bediako(Domeabrahene).

They were sworn in by His Lordship, Mr. Justice Kofi Akrowiah (Supervising High Court Judge, Ashanti Region).

After taken the oaths of office, allegiance and secrecy, the Supervising High Court Judge Mr. Justice Akrowiah said the neutrality of the members of the council was necessary to ensure that parties have confidence in them

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Simon Osei Mensah was the Special Guest of Honour for the Program.

Nana Agyakoma Dufie ii(Asante Mampong Hemaa) also Board Member of National Peace Council(NPC) chaired the Inaugural ceremony.

Other dignitaries were the Former Chairman of NPC Most Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Asante, ASP Godwin Ahianyo(He represented the Ashanti Regional Police Commander), Central Commander(Armed Forces) and Prof. Emmanuel Marfo(he represented the Vice Chancellor of KNUST).

Giving his speech at the inauguration ceremony, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Simon Mensah called on the newly constituted board members to be politically neutral in the discharge of their duties.

He charged them to be objective in their mediating role devoid of emotions and should rely on the facts from both parties, so they reconcile the facts to bring them to consensus.

Hon. Simon Osei Mensah congratulated and relayed his profound gratitude to the outgoing members of the Coucil for their tremendous work done in support of the Security agencies to maintain peace and Harmony in the region and Ghana as a whole.

He urged the incoming members to follow the neutral foot to carry out their mandate devoid of favour.

He said the role of the Peace Council in the affairs of the country could not be  over emphasised as the Council continued to ensure that the prevailing peace enjoyed by the country was sustained.

The Minister said the Regional Peace Council worked closely with the Regional Coordinating Council to maintain peace in the Region and was optimistic that such relationship would continue.

The Other dignitaries all charged the new members to discharge their duties without fear of intimidation.

The council members said they are committed to executing their mandate and ensuring that there will be peace at all times in the region and in Ghana.
