The Management of Manso Amenfi Health Centre in the Wassa Amenfi Central of the Western Region has reacted to the death of a newborn baby at their facility on Saturday, 25th of March, 2023.

According to the earlier report, 18-year-old pregnant woman, Mrs. Joyce Mensah reported at the hospital to deliver but, was allegedly unattended to, as no health practitioner or midwife was around to turn to her.

She was later transported by her sister-in-law by name Blessing Mensah to another health facility at Bawdie, very far from Manso Amenfi where she delivered but the baby unfortunately died.

Blames have been put at the doorstep of Manso Amenfi Health Centre for not attending to the pregnant woman earlier on at their facility.

However, the Management of the Manso Amenfi Health Centre has released a statement about the unfortunate incident.

According to Management, it was not true that they refused to attend to the pregnant.

MANAGEMENT STATEMENT ON DEATH OF A NEWBORN BABY DUE TO

ALLEGED DELAY IN CARE AT MANSO AMENFI HEALTH CENTRE

1. Our attention has been drawn to the above incident reported on Angel TV network and

other media houses. We wish to state that the reportage was hastily done without due

recourse to the facts and a such laced with inaccuracies.

2. Our staff on duty was out of the maternity to tidy up herself and change her scrubs after

she had splash of bodily fluids from a delivery completed at 6:30 PM.

3. A pregnant woman reported to the facility at about 7:20 PM in the company of two

relatives but met the absence of the maternity staff on duty.

4. Efforts to reach the maternity staff on phone proved futile, so another staff informed the

relatives to allow him call another midwife, who was not on duty, at the staff quarters

nearby to attend to them.

5. The client and relatives objected and said they would rather go to another facility since

they had been kept waiting. They are believed to have spent a maximum of 15 minutes

from the time they arrived and exited the health facility. The client was eventually delivered

at a health facility in Bawdie. Unfortunately, the baby later died.

6. The travel time from Manso Amenfi to Bawdie is about one hour, and management is of

the view that a little exercise of patience by the accompanying relatives will have offered

an opportunity for the client to be attended to and possibly avoid the loss of the baby.

7. We wish to state that our utmost desire is to uphold a high standard of ethics and

professionalism in the discharge of our duties and we do welcome constructive feedback

from stakeholders to achieve this goal.

8. For the avoidance of doubt, neither did the baby nor the mother die at Manso Amenfi

Health Centre.

In case of reply the number and the date of
