INSECURITY: Kennedy Agyapong donates 200 street light bulbs to Racecourse Traders

The Member of Parliament(MP) for Assin Central in the Central Region, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong has donated 200 street light bulbs to the Traders at Kumasi racecourse market to enhance security.

The donation was in fulfilment of a promise he made to the traders after the traders lamented over insecurity at the market when he held a special meeting with them in Kumasi to solicit their concerns.

Background

Hon Kennedy Agyapong on November this year met the traders to inform them about his intentions to contest for the flagbearer position in the governing New patriotic party (NPP) where the traders appealed for the lights.

Presentation of the items

Presenting the lights on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, Mr kwame Owusu, campaign manager for Hon Kennedy Agyapong said, the donation was made as part of the efforts to significantly improve the security situation in the market particularly at night in order to drastically reduce the number of thefts and robbery cases.

He disclosed that the cost of the installation of the lights and the poles will be paid by Hon. Kennedy Agyapong.

He added that, the firebrand politician with the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Hon. Ohene Agyapong has for many years taken keen interest in the activities of traders across the country, therefore, he cannot turn death ears to the pleas of traders.

“The move is to simply brighten every dark area of the market to encourage traders to work any time of the day and reduce thefts at the same time”, the campaign manager stated.

Per the report of the traders, we noticed that security has been a major challenge for them for sometime and there is the need to implement stringent measures to address it.

Receiving the lights on behalf of the traders, Nana Yaa Foriwaa, head of market representing the Asantehemaa commended Hon. Kennedy Agyapong for honoring his promise.

She added that the gesture will augment the efforts by traders to ensure that their goods are well protected in the market.
