Abortion can cause barrenness- MP cautions students on early sex

The Member of Parliamentary (MP) for Nsuta-Kwaman-Beposo Constituency in the Sekyere Central District of the Ashanti Region, Hon. Adelaide Ntim has cautioned students especially Junior High School (JHS) and Senior High School (SHS) students to abstain from sex.

Presentinga statement on the floor of Parliament today, Friday, December 10, 2021 on abortion and other girl child matters in the country, she said early sex amongst young females leads to unwanted pregnancies which retire the education of these girls.

Hon. Adelaide added that, girls who attempt abortion after conceiving in the act sometimes suffer barrenness at their adult age hence entreating them to get rid of sex at these tender age.

She disclosed that, One Hundred and Twenty Three Thousand (123,000) cases of illegal abortion were recorded in 2019 among teenage girls between the ages of eleven (11) and Seventeen (17) as against 2020’s figure of One Hundred and Nineteen Thousand (119,000) which witnessed slight reduction vis-a-vis last two year’s record on these same age group.

Base on this, Hon. Ntim has urged all the young girls to only focus on their education or their technical and vocational works rather than allowing themselves for men to have their way in them as it can lead to barrenness.
