Non-communicable Diseases: Ghanaians urged to go for regular checkups

The Ashanti Regional Director of the Ghana Health Service, Dr Emmanuel Tenkorang, has urged Ghanaians to regularly go for medical checkups to know their health status.

He said health was paramount and that people should not wait till they fell sick before seeking medical attention.

Dr Emmanuel Tenkorang gave the advice in an interview with Silver FM’s Akwadaa Nyame on Saturday, January 7, 2023, during a year review of Non-Communicable (NCD).

He thanked the media for their support during the Covid 19 ara and urged them to help educate the public about the Non-communicable diseases so that, we can reduced the risk of the diseases.

He again thanked all the health workers especially those in the Ashanti region for their selfless support and dedication to their work during the COVID -19 pandemic and urged to to do more to help fight the Non-Communicable diseases since it’s the most dangerous and leading diseases that is taking the lives of Ghanaians.

He is optimistic that covid-19 may possibly end at the concluding part of 2023 following efforts by the Health Directorate towards the pandemic.

He informed that surveillance has been strengthened, and the support of the media has been immense in creating awareness; a situation which if continues will help control most of the health challenges in the Ashanti Region.

Dr Tenkorang highlighted that wiping out covid-19 is possible in the Region only if the populace adheres to the various health protocols. He appealed to Ghanaians not to lose guard inspite of the fall in covid-19 numbers.

On the other hand, the regional coordinator for Non-communicable diseases, Mrs Lydia Owusu Ansah outlining some of the diseases such as Hypertension, Diabetes, blood pressure and others said, some of the lifestyle of some Ghanaians is the main cause of the diseases. She advised Ghanaians especially the youth and those who have such diseases to refrain from drinking of alcohol, smoking and excessive intake of fatty foods.

She also urged them to do visit hospital regularly to know their status to avoid unfortunate incidents.

Dr Mrs Beatrice Wiafe Addae, CEO of peace and Love Hospital and president of Breast Care International stressed that, a lots of breast cancer patients died needlessly last year as a result of the covid-19 interference and it is needful to collaborate to end the menace.

She advised women on the importance of reporting early to hospital for treatment and notified of plans to visit churches, schools and corporate organizations for checkups and early treatment.
