NCCE appeals to Government for money and logistics support to work effectively

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has appealed to the government to support them with money and logistics in order to perform their duties as expected and efficiently.

The National Secretary of NCCE, Mr. Bernard Adjei made the call today on behalf of the commission.

The present situation of NCCE according to him is not the best as they are working with inadequate logistics with little funding, thus making the commission struggle to performing its mandated task.

Speaking at their 4th Quadrennial delegate conference held in Kumasi on Thursday December 8, 2022 on the theme: Sustaining Ghana’s Democracy in a post Covid recovery and economic crisis era; the role of the civic educator”, Mr Bernard Adjei said the financial constraint is making the going tough for the commission.

He stressed that, it has become difficult for the Commission to effectively carry out civic education in the various corners of the country to aid the people having better understanding of their fundamental human rights, freedoms and responsibilities.

He said there were wrong things which ordinarily many would not commit if given proper education, pointing out that this was the way forward to check lawlessness so that the incident of people taking the law into their own hands would be prevented.

He said building an enlightened society, where everybody was motivated to get right with the law should be made an urgent national priority.

Mr Adjei added that, sometimes staffs have to use their own money to carry out duties which supposed to be fund by government. He revealed that, their only source of funds apart from government is NGO’s and other foriegn partners which comes once a while.

He reiterated that the NCCE “is non-partisan” and focused on helping to make Ghana a safe and peaceful place for everybody but the problem has to do with politicians. He said our democracy has valuated by politicians and that is why Ghana is facing current economic crisis. Mr Adjei revealed that, every government who comes to power depends on loans which does not generate income. “We have all the resources in this country but what our leaders is using it for; he asked”.

He then appealed to government and all the stakeholders come together and address these issues and find a lasting solution to it.
