Queenmother, residents of Abenabena community cry over lack of essential amenities

The Queenmother and residents of Abenabena community in Wassa Amenfi East municipal of the Western region have expressed worries over lack of social amenities in the area, thus calling on authorities in Wassa Amenfi East and the government to come to their aid, so as to alleviate the suffering of the people.

According to Chiefs and Opinion leaders in the area, despite persistent appeals to the Wassa Amenfi East municipal Assembly and the government on the urgent need to provide basic amenities in their community, nothing has been done to alleviate the plight in the area.

Speaking exclusively to Nana Kwame Buah a journalist, Wassa Abenabena Opinion Leader, Abusuapanin Kwaku Ankomah urged the government to deem it necessary to focus on the rapid infrastructural development in the community.

According to Kwaku Ankomah, “the school pupil’s of the community have been neglected of proper school infrastructure and a toilet facility.” he said.

He added that, the absence of toilet facilities leaves the students with no other options than to defecate in the bushes.

For her part, the Queen Mother of Wassa Amenfi Akwamuhene, Nana Ntiwaa (iii) expressed concern about the growing popularity of television soap operas with school children and the amount of time they spend watching these channels.

She said, this should give everybody, who genuinely wanted to see improvement in academic performance cause to worry.

Instead of the children spending time on their books, she bemoaned that many of them in the community and Ghana at large, are often seen glued to the TV which is seriously affecting academic performance nationwide.

The Queen Mother again expressed concern that, pupils keep leaving their schools to join others that are benefiting from the Ghana School Feeding Programme just to have free meals.

Therefore, she has passionately appealed to the Government to consider adding them to the Ghana School Feeding beneficiary schools.

The Queen Mother speaking exclusively to Nana Kwame Buah, she called on the MCE for Wassa Amenfi East and the Government to construct computer laboratories in their schools to enhance the teaching and learning of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

She said the lack of computer laboratories in the schools hindered the effective teaching of ICT as a subject and made the subject very difficult for pupils to develop and sustain their interest in it.
