Akyem Abuakwa Council of Zongo Chiefs Install New Queen Mother

Murjanaatu Muhammed who is popularly known as Hajia Asibi has been installed as the New Magajiya (Queen Mother) for Akyem Abuakwa Council of Zongo Chiefs in the Eastern region.

The newly installed Queen Mother is a native of Akyem Osino in the Fanteakwa South district of the Eastern region.

The colourful conferment to the Zongo council took place on Saturday, 29th October, 2022, at Osino under the auspices of Alhaji Umar Gariba Abubakar the vice president of national council of Zongo Chiefs who doubles as President for Eastern region and Akyem Abuakwa council of Zongo Chiefs.

Hajia Asibi expressed her satisfaction about the events and called on all the Zongo Queen Mothers to lend their support to ensure that her traditional authority becomes a success and also open a new chapter in the life of all the zongo communities in Akyem Abuakwa enclaves.

She told Afeema FM’s journalist Kaakyire Kwasi Afari that her new office is poised to foster unity, development and education in all the Zongo Communities in Akyem Abuakwa.

Murjanaatu Muhammed reveals that providing education for the youth in Zongos, is the surest way of human resource development and poverty alleviation hence her commitment to investing in education for all.

To this end, she has advised Queen Mothers and parents in Zongo communities to prioritize the education of their children, including the girl child, adding education has become the driving force for every country, and the Zongo communities shouldn’t block their children education.

Hajia Asibi pledged to support community development, ensure peace and unity amongst Queen mothers and protect the interest of women and children in the communities.

She called on Muslim youth especially Muslim girls to be courteous and exhibit high moral uprightness, which are the core values of the Islamic Faith.

For his part, the president of the Eastern regional council of Zongo Chiefs, Alhaji Umar Gariba Abubakar convinced Zongo Chiefs and the youth to promote violence free elections in Ghana as the country prepares for polls.

He called on politicians and Zongo Chiefs in Akyem Abuakwa to send peace messages to their people in their various destinations to place the interest of Ghana above any others.

Addressing Muslim leaders, youth and politicians at the durbar, Alhaji Umar charged the youth to request politicians’ children to lead demonstrations and electorial violence if they come to them.

“Politician that will come to you to mobilize Zongo people to go and perpetrate electoral violence should be asked to bring his/her children or family members to lead the demonstration and I believe when we begin to do this, the issues of electoral violence will reduce considerably during elections” he told the gathering.

According to him, this coming elections the Zongo youth need to put a stop to those practices because the Zongo people also deserve to go to school which will later give them employment and improve their livelihood.

The MP for Fanteakwa South Constituency, hon. Kofi Okyere Agyekum in his speech at the event expressed delight at the cordial relations that exist between Muslims and Christians in the country.

He said, with time, he thinks the somehow haughty relations that used to exist between religious groups have improved tremendously therefore, he called on Ghanaians to hold firmly the peace existing in the country.
