SHOCKING: Man Dead After His Car Collided With 11-Foot Alligator in middle of the road
A Florida man is dead after his car collided with an 11-foot alligator early Thursday, according to authorities.
John Hopkins, 59, was heading eastbound on C.R. 672 in Lithia, about 59 miles northeast of Sarasota, at around 12:30 a.m. Thursday when he struck the animal, which was in the road, according to a release from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
Hopkins’ car “veered off the road,” before flipping over into a ditch, police said.
An alligator much like this one led to the crash.
A passing driver contacted police after spotting the car in the ditch, said authorities.
Both Hopkins and the alligator were pronounced dead at the scene.
An investigation into the incident is currently underway.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to the Daily News’ request for comment.
