The Book: Samuel Sarpong reveals Otumfou’s strategic gift to Mahama on Ashanti Region’s development
Former Ashanti Regional Minister Samuel Sarpong has disclosed that Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, had confidence in John Dramani Mahama’s victory in the 2024 elections as reported by Ghana Web on Thursday, January 9, 2025.
According to Sarpong, before the polls, Mahama was presented with a comprehensive development agenda for the Ashanti Region by the Asantehene during a courtesy visit.
Sarpong explained that Otumfuo’s belief in Mahama’s success was evident when the Asantehene handed over a book containing a vision for the region’s growth.
This gesture was intended to guide Mahama’s future administration on regional development. “Otumfuo believed in Mahama winning, and the book was meant to prepare him for the task ahead,” Sarpong stated.
The former minister also revealed that Mahama, upon winning, would focus on completing unfinished projects from the previous government under former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
“Mahama has Asanteman in his heart,” Sarpong said, highlighting the significance of Ashanti’s support for Mahama during the elections.
He added that the former president would prioritize Ashanti’s development and ensure the fulfillment of promises that had not been met.
This revelation has sparked discussions on the potential direction of Mahama’s leadership, particularly regarding how he plans to address the developmental needs of the Ashanti Region.
