My relationship with former President Kuffour- Gloria Orwoba tells it all
According to The Nairobian, Kenyan nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba, known for her strong advocacy for menstrual health and her bold stance against societal taboos, has confirmed her relationship with former Ghanaian President John Kufuor. The confirmation comes amidst swirling media speculation, ignited by a video showing Kufuor touching Orwoba’s baby bump, leading to widespread curiosity about the father of her child.
Orwoba, who gained national attention in 2023 for wearing a blood-stained suit to Parliament to challenge the stigma surrounding menstruation, had recently taken a break from the public spotlight. Her reappearance at the impeachment hearing of Kenyan Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, visibly pregnant, sparked further public interest. A video circulating online showed Kufuor affectionately touching her baby bump, which prompted rumors regarding their relationship.
In an exclusive interview with The Nairobian, Orwoba addressed the rumors head-on, stating, “That is me in the video, and that is the former President. We don’t discuss our personal lives.” She also confirmed the birth of her child and dismissed the online speculations surrounding the identity of the child’s father.
Orwoba, however, took issue with the intense media scrutiny of her personal life. On December 20, 2024, she issued a strong statement condemning the invasion of her privacy, particularly the media’s handling of her relationship with Kufuor. “For most of my career, I have endured various forms of violence, both verbal and physical, and have consistently stood up against patriarchal systems. However, this unwarranted invasion of my private life, particularly regarding a supposed affair with H.E. John Kufuor, is deeply disappointing,” she said in the statement.
Beyond the controversies surrounding her personal life, Orwoba has shown support for Ghana, recently congratulating former President John Mahama on his victory in the 2024 elections. Kufuor, who has remained largely out of the public eye since the passing of his wife in 2023, continues to be a respected figure due to his leadership during his presidency.
