Upgrade Tain district hospital to regional status – Medical Superintendent appeals to government
Medical Superintendent and Surgeon at Tain District Hospital, Dr. Philip Taah-Amoako has appealed to the government to consider upgrading the district health facility to Bono Regional Hospital.
Dr. Philip Taah-Amoako said that upgrading the facility is not only a necessity but also a viable option, given the hospital’s existing infrastructure, which is conducive to a regional hospital status.
The 60-bed Tain District Hospital is fully equipped with modern hospital equipment, providing major health services.
Dr. Taah-Amoako speaking in an interview with Kaakyire Kwasi Afari of Sunyani-based Ark fm on Tuesday, he emphasized that the hospital’s location outside the city of Bono Regional capital does not hinder its potential for upgrading.
He noted that since the Sunyani Regional Hospital was upgraded to a teaching hospital, there has been no replacement, making the Tain District Hospital an ideal candidate for regional hospital status.
Dr. Philip Taah-Amoako mentioned that upgrading the facility would increase human resources, economic viability, and infrastructure, including roads in the Tain District.
Adding that the facility would serve as a referral centre while assuring management’s commitment to providing quality healthcare services in the Bono Region when upgraded.
Tain district hospital has chalked some remarkable success in healthcare delivery just after commissioning.
Notably, in the recent 2024 National Leadership Excellence Awards organized by the Ghana Health Service, the hospital’s medical supretendent, Dr Taah-Amoako, was adjudged the 2nd Runner-Up at the district level.
Additionally, the Tain District Hospital received the Institutional Excellence Award as the 2nd Runner-Up for Primary Level Hospitals.
Reacting to the awards, Dr. Taah-Amoako attributed the facility’s success to the hard work and professionalism of the staff in delivering quality healthcare for visitors.
He noted that the facility has been effective, citing improvements in hospital equipment and the dedication of the hospital staff.
The hospital was originally established in 1965 to provide primary health care to the people of Nsawkaw and the surrounding areas.
However, Ghana Health Service upgraded Tain District Hospital from a health centre to a hospital in 2010.
The District Hospital was part of the nine Euroget hospitals initiated by former President John Agyekum Kuffour.
Dr. Philip Taah-Amoako told Kaakyire Kwasi Afari of Ark FM that the scope of work at the 60-bed Tain District Hospital includes design of all project disciplines, construction of all buildings and systems, supply and installation of medical equipment and furniture, supply and installation of non-medical equipment and furniture, and training warranty and maintenance.
Outpatient facilities include dental clinics, general medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, pediatrics, and general surgery.
