Asutifi North: Works begin to restore bridge on Tano River

Reconstruction works on the Tano Bridge, which connects Ntotroso to Kenyase road in Asutifi North, in the Ahafo Region has begun to prevent further fatalities.

The destruction of the bridge connecting Ntotroso to nearby communities has severely disrupted residents’ movements and economic activities, making life unbearable.

Farmers have been particularly affected, facing a devastating setback after the 2021 demolishing exercise posed a threat to commuters on the Ntotroso to Kenyase route.

Residents attribute the destruction to the MP for Asutifi North, Hon. Patrick Bannor and the MCE for ultra-modern bridge.

As a result, vehicular movement is seriously impacted, forcing traders and farmers to take alternative routes.

However, in a positive development, Ghana Highways Authority’s Project Supervisor, Mr. John Asamoah Peprah announced that reconstruction works will commence immediately to restore the Tano Bridge.

Mr. John Asamoah Peprah confirmed that the reconstruction works aimed to build a modern bridge that can accommodate the volume of water.

He told Kaakyire Kwasi Afari of Ark Fm on Wednesday that the project is expected to be completed within two months, barring any unforeseen circumstances.

Mr. Peprah cautioned residents against stealing construction materials, warning that theft could result in project delays.

The Asutifi North NPP Constituency Chairman, Odiasempa Kwadwo Adusei, welcomed the reconstruction efforts, stating that they aim to restore the road to its original state, ensuring safety and convenience for motorists and residents.

He also reacted to the recently launched District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP), emphasizing the need for collaboration between assembly members and MMDCEs for successful implementation.

Mr. Adusei, affectionately known, pledged to closely monitor the implementation of the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) in his district.

He outlined plans for Asutifi North to create a comprehensive road map by dividing the district into zonal areas, facilitating the exercise.

He accused the NDC of obstructing the bridge reconstruction process by interfering with the finalization of the construction contract.

For his part, the assembly member for Ntotroso electoral area, Mr. Omane Acheampong Nicholas expressed support for DRIP, hoping to see the Enso Nyame y3 road reshaped in his electoral area.

He urged the Asutifi North Assembly to utilize the equipment to benefit targeted communities.
