WORLD TOILET DAY CELEBRATED AT ADAMUPE IN THE EAST GONJA MUNICIPAL OF THE SAVANNAH REGION
World toilet day celebration was hold at Adamupe in the East Gonja municipal in the Savannah Region, Each year in the month of November (November 19, 2022 FY 23), World Toilet Day is celebrated globally to highlight the global sanitation crisis that about 4.2 billions of people around the world who are living without access to a safely managed Sanitation (Source: UN).
Without clean, safe toilets, untreated human waste (poop) get out into the environment and spreads deadly and chronic diseases, thereby increasing the chances of people getting sick.
According to Mr Patrick Maraa Tachin, East Gonja Cluster Manager. Research reveals that, around the world at least 892 million people continue to practice open defecation. This often causes the spread of diarrheal diseases.
In addition, each day, an estimated number of 1,000 children die around the world from diarrhea related to poor sanitation and contaminated water sources. Safe sanitation, the practice of good hygiene, and a safe water supply can save the lives of more then 350,000 children a year.
It is against this background that World Vision as an organization, has taken upon itself to join hands with other like minded stakeholders such as Ghana Education Service, Ghana Health Service, Environment Health Unit, and the Municipal Assembly to create awareness and get the buy in of relevant stakeholders and community members to embrace behaviour change and approach towards latrine construction. This will further enhance upon our CLTS campaign in communities.
We are calling on the community leaders present to remain committed to this call, since it will go a long way to enhance upon the health status of their children and they themselves. Research has outlined the role health and sanitation plays in the growth, education and development of every Child.
World Vision as part of its mandate seeks to promote a very conducive environment for every child to have life in all its fullness. That is why we are committed in undertaking various developmental projects like provision of water, institutional latrines, food security, behavior change communications and various human empowerment programmes especially for the vulnerable groups.
Mr. Patrick Maraa Tachin said, this year, World Vision is committed to providing three 6 seater KVIP laterines with changing room for girls in three schools and 4 4 seater KVIP laterines for health facilities in 4 communities. The various contract award processes have begun.
We will however be collaborating with the relevant institutions to earmark exact locations for such facilities to be constructed 7 communities have also been earmarked for water provision and mechanization. One of such project is what we are seeing in the Adamupe Community which is about 95% complete.
We however do acknowledge that, World Vision alone cannot do all. We use this platform to call on all stakeholders to join hands in whichever way they can to support this agenda.
