GIVE PEACE A CHANCE IN PAI KATANGA – CLERGY
Everyone knows perfectly well that peace and tranquillity are the prerequisites for development and prosperity all over the world. But building those critical bridges for progress has proven rather elusive in some parts of our dear country Pai Katanga being a classical example.
Indeed, for many years, the Pai katanga in the Krachi East Municipality of the newly-created Oti Region have slain each other over land.
The lives of many young and old – have seen an abrupt end and those left live in a constant state of fear, not knowing when another gunshot will ring.
The Oti regional minister paid an official tour to the area and admonished the chiefs and people to bring to an end the incidents of conflict and violence that have plagued the town.
The latest round of disturbances broke out leading to the loss of eught lives and destruction of property worth millions of Ghana cedis.
The situation has forced thousands to continue to flee from the area as there seems to be no end in sight to the conflict.
But as mediation efforts continue in conflict-ravaged katanga, it has emerged that one group of people hardest hit by the crisis are students and women.
The Oti regional minister in consultation with the Kwahu royal chiefs including the clergy agreed to appoint an interim chief, Nana Asiedu to foresee the peace of the area.
Early this year, the Kwahu Omanhene, Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong invited the two frictions to his palace in Kwahu Abene of the Eastern Region to start the mediation process to bring everlasting peace to Pai Katanga.
But it’s alleged that such efforts have proven futile due to the parochial interest of some individuals.
The interim leaders is said to have hinted that about 98% of the two frictions have agreed to smoke peace pipe excluding three persons namely Okyeame Osei, Yaw Donkor and Kwabena Donkor.
The accused persons intention to deny peace in the area is however not indicated.
The public is interested in knowing the mission of the three accused persons and the hidden faces behind them. The interim chief, Nana Asiedu and his team should be able to tell the public why the three accused persons are refusing to smoke peace pipe with the other friction.
The clergy is therefore calling on the Government through the Oti regional minister, the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare and the royal chiefs of Kwahu traditional council to act swiftly on their powers to order the accused persons to give peace a chance in Pai Katanga.
