Food Shortage In SHSs: PCG-BAP Donates To Compliment Gov’t’s Effort

The Chairperson of the Brong Ahafo Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rev. Benjamin Appiah has mentioned that ” the free Senior High School policy is a good initiative and needs to be supported by all, irrespective of political viewpoints and affiliations.”

However, he called for its amendment to ensure its sustainability in the foreseeable future.

The free SHS policy has paved way for lots of students in various Senior High Schools. Rev. Benjamin Appiah made this assertion when the B/A Presbytery of the
Presbyterian Church of Ghana donated some food items to Samuel Otu SHS, Techimantia and Bechem Presbyterian SHS, respectively, all in the Ahafo Region.

In totality, thirty (30) bags of rice and ten (10) bags of maize were given to the two schools. The presentation, according to the chairperson, is a way to complement the government’s effort regarding feeding in the schools.

He called for additional support from philanthropists to help the students, especially the final year students as they prepare for their WASSCE.

Rev. Benjamin Appiah cautioned both Headmasters to ensure that there is no diversion of any of the donated items but to ensure their judicious use of it for the intended purpose.

The Presbytery Chairperson warned all WASSCE candidates against any examination malpractice. He advised them to go to the examination hall clean and fully prepared.

He however gave the assurance that students in these schools who perform creditably with 8As will be given scholarship support to further their education to the Tertiary level.

Headmasters of Samuel Otu SHS and Bechem PRESEC, Evans Asare, and Mr. Edwin Odame Amoah expressed their immense delight and gratitude to the Presbytery for the kind gesture and appealed to other stakeholders to join the train.

They mentioned lack of infrastructures, delay in supply of food, lack of official vehicles, and other issues as some of the challenges bedeviling the schools and appealed for support.
