Ghana Post launches scuttle box system to bring convenience to customers

With the Ghana Post scuttle box, the customers receive a text prompt when they have mail delivered in the box
Ghana Post on Thursday (11 August 2022) launched the scuttle box system to bring innovation and more convenience to customers.
The scuttle box system is like the post office in the customer’s home or office place. It is a 100% Ghanaian innovation to solve problems in the postal system.
Speaking at the launch in Accra, Bice Osei Kuffour, the managing director of the Ghana Post said, the scuttle box “is an ease of communication device that we are rolling out and it is linked to our national postal system on the backs of our national digital addressing system which is the GPS. Anybody can request and become a subscriber of a scuttle box.”
Scuttle box
The scuttle box is an upgrade of the Ghana Posts’ door-to-door receptacle initiative which was launched to Ghanaians to help facilitate a more convenient way of postal and currier delivery services to the doorsteps of customers.
Osei Kuffour said, “The scuttle box innovation is a clear demonstration of Ghana Posts’ determination to serve Ghanaians the very best and convenient postal and courier services. What is even more refreshing and instructive is that the scuttle box is another Ghanaian innovation engineered and driven by a strategic partnership between two indigenous Ghanaian companies.
He said the scuttle box presents a unique opportunity to subscribe to the Ghana Project whiles showcasing to the rest of the world that “we have what it takes to innovate to deal with the unique challenges confronting us and that we could rise to any challenge any day.”
“We can only achieve if we all throw our weight behind this very well-thought-through initiative by ensuring that every household or every business gets a scuttle box installed.”
Osei Kuffour added, “I humbly entreat all relevant authorities to rally around this project by enacting bye-laws which can make the scuttle box a part of every livelihood.”
He also called on the Ghana Real Estates Association to join forces with the Ghana Post to make the scuttle box part of every new building.
Osei Kuffour said customers who already have letter boxes can still link them to their scuttle boxes “so that mails that come to their letter boxes can be delivered to them in their scuttle box in the comfort of their homes or businesses.”
He said Ghana Post is using the success of the national digital addressing system to operationalize the scuttle box system.
“Innovative-thinking”
Godfred Dame, the Attorney General and Minister of Justice who was the guest speaker at the launch said, he had a deep admiration for the vision and innovative thinking of the managing director of the Ghana Post.

Dame said, “the postal system faces a real risk of extinction in the absence of sharp innovation. It is for this reason that the dynamism and drive of those at the helm of affairs of the postal system like the current managing director of the Ghana Post who seems to keep the institution alive and significant ought to be celebrated…”
He added, “… the Ghana Post is in discussions with the Registrar of Companies to provide their services in post offices for the two institutions to link their systems so as to be able to easily confirm postal and digital addresses used in the registration of companies. This will undoubtedly prevent the phenomenon of people registering companies with false data…”
He said the launch of the scuttle box represents a major milestone in the communication industry.
