Supreme Court cancels re-collation of Four constituencies results- Checkout
News coming in indicates that the Supreme Court has ruled to cancel the re-collation of parliamentary election results in four key constituencies. These include Okaikwei Central, Ablekuma North, Tema Central, and Techiman South. However, the court upheld the results for Nsawam Adoagyiri and Ahafo Ano North, declaring them valid.
This decision comes after a legal battle between the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over the results of parliamentary elections in these areas. The NDC had challenged the High Court’s earlier order for a re-collation of results, arguing that the process was flawed and unfair.
The Supreme Court’s decision to cancel the re-collation in four constituencies means the results announced earlier in these areas will no longer stand. This development could significantly affect the composition of Parliament, as both parties have been contesting closely fought seats.
For the constituencies where results were upheld; Nsawam Adoagyiri and Ahafo Ano North, the Supreme Court confirmed that the initial results were valid and did not need any re-collation. This brings relief to candidates in these areas, as their victories are now officially recognized.
The case was heard by a five-member panel of judges led by Justice Gabriel Pwamang. Other members of the panel included Justices Henrietta Mensa-Bonsu, Eric Gaewu, Henry Kwofie, and Richard Adjei-Frimpong.
The judges reviewed the arguments presented by lawyers for the NDC, the NPP, and the Electoral Commission before delivering their ruling. The NDC’s lawyer, Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, and the NPP’s lawyer, Gary Nimako Marfo, both made strong arguments in support of their positions.
The Electoral Commission is expected to release official statements about the next steps following the Supreme Court’s ruling.
