E/R: Policeman found dead after allegedly killing his lover

The officer identified as Constable Kwame Asare, is believed to have taken his own life after fatally shooting his partner, 32-year-old, Abena Adom in a residential area in the town of Koforidua.
According to initial reports from local authorities, the tragic sequence of events unfolded in the early hours of December 2, 2024.
Witnesses in the area heard gunshots, followed by screams which prompted neighbors to alert the police.
When law enforcement officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Constable Asare’s body in a nearby room, having apparently died form a self-inflicted gunshot wounds. Abena Adom was found lifeless in another room, also with a gunshot wound.
The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, and police investigators are working to piece together the details.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the two may have had a tumultuous relationship, it is still unclear whether the officer’s actions were premeditated or the result of a domestic dispute that escalated.
Locals who knew the described Constable Asare as a quiet individual who had recently shown signs of stress. However, they were shocked by the turn of events, as there had been no previous indications of violence between the two.
Mental experts have warned about the increasing cases of emotional distress among law enforcement officers, particularly in the wake of heightened stress from their demanding work.
The Eastern Region Officers have promised to conduct a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding this shocking incident. The body of the deceased was transferred to Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital Morgue for preservation and autopsy.
