“We’ll make sure you will not win” – Akuffo Addo boldly tells Independent candidate
President Akufo-Addo has denied allegations made by Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, a former New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP for the constituency, that the government is conspiring with the Electoral Commission to rig the Ejisu by-election in favour of NPP candidate Kwabena Boateng.
In a barrage of questions, the president asked the former MP if the party rigged the process for him at the time he was on its ticket.
The three-time Ejisu MP reportedly claimed that there was an ongoing plot by the government to rig the by-election in favour of the NPP’s candidate.
However, in a sharp rebuttal, President Akufo-Addo denied the allegations and described them as false.
He asserted that the incumbent candidate had realised he was in no position to win, hence his unfounded allegations.
He advised him to desist from peddling lies against the party since no one is against his decision to resign from the NPP.
Speaking at the NPP’s final rally ahead of the by-election scheduled for Tuesday, April 30, the president said no independent candidate has what it takes to bring development to the country in Ejisu.
“Did the NPP rig the election in his favour when he defeated the incumbent MP, who was also a Cabinet Minister? So why is he suddenly claiming that we are plotting to rig the election in favour of our candidate? He is aware he will not win, and we will make sure he will not get it today or tomorrow. We will retain the seat.”
“We are against any independent candidate whose past is unknown to us. We are aware that some influential people are sponsoring him. I personally know there are some people supporting him. But we’ll not accept him.”
The President, therefore, admonished the electorate of Ejisu to go out in their numbers and vote for the NPP candidate, Kwabena Boateng.
According to him, it is only the party’s candidate who can lobby for development in the constituency.
