Contracta Ghana Limited holds breast cancer awareness workshop for members, market women

Contracta Ghana limited, a Brazilian company has sensitised it’s members and market women within Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly on breast cancer.

The workshop held in different places including police church, Buokrom, Racecourse and Kumasi center for national culture today 28 October,2022 emphasised the need for breast screening among women for early detection and management to enhance productivity.

It also formed part of Contracta Ghana limited contribution to the globally celebrated “breast cancer awareness month”, marked every October to reduce the impart that breast cancer had on women’s potentials.

Participants who were drawn from the various places were educated on how to prevent and detect breast cancer and had their breasts screened as well.

Mr Emmanuel Danso, Community Liaison Officer speaking on behalf of the company urged women to self-examine their breasts regularly to ensure there were no abnormalities. He encouraged women to seek medical attention early when they felt lumps in their breasts adding that, treatment become relatively difficult when the lumps grew bigger.

Mr Emmanuel Danso added that,breast cancer awareness was a vital topic which needed attention throughout the year and not only in October. He then advised men to get involved in a activities of breast cancer education, saying, “Educating men on breast cancer screening will inform them to encourage women to embrace early detection.”

The National president of Breast Care International Ghana, Dr Mrs Beatrice Wiafe-Addae, who was invited to educate the participants refuted claims which suggest sucking of breasts prevents breast cancer.

She indicated that this claim is not true; adding that the frequent fondling of the breast of women by men would not protect them against breast cancer.

She, however, disclosed that women or men who take in alcoholic beverages and smoke cigarettes and other harmful substances stand a high risk of contracting breast cancer.

“Too much intake of alcohol is not good for women, so stop taking it to save yourself from breast cancer. Alcohol promotes breast cancer very fast. If women continue to take alcoholic beverages and other harmful substances such as tobacco, cigarettes, marijuana and wee, among others, there is a high possibility for them,” Dr Mrs Wiafe-Addae stated.

Dr Mrs Wiafe-Addae, who is also the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Peace and Love Hospitals in Accra and Kumasi, said this at a workshop organized by contracta Ghana limited, a Brazilian construction company.
