A female visiting Visa holder, Zulfawu Ishaku, passed away in Sharmansur, a suburb of Mecca in Saudi Arabia, on Sunday, June 18, 2023, while awaiting to perform Hajj.

Zulfawu Ishaku, 68 years old, was reportedly from Kumasi in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.

According to reports, she had come to Mecca during the Umrah season with the intention of staying over and performing Hajj alongside those with Hajj permits. Unfortunately, she encountered challenging circumstances during her stay, which deteriorated her medical condition and ultimately led to her demise.

The officials of the Ghana Consulate were promptly informed about the situation, and the necessary procedures are currently underway for her burial.

Prior to the Hajj season, the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Hajj and Umrah issues various warnings to holders of visiting, tourist, and Umrah visas, urging them to refrain from participating in Hajj. Violators of these regulations are subject to prosecution and deportation.

The Ghana Hajj Board has also cautioned Ghanaians against attempting to perform Hajj through illegal means. However, some individuals still manage to find their way into the Kingdom.
