Refrain From Driving Through Floodwaters – Mrs Martey advices Drivers

The climate change has been necessary to protect life and prosperity seasonal rainfall in early March to May and June this year.

Speaking at a news conference held in Accra, the deputy director incharge of Research, at the Ghana Meteorological Agency, Mrs Francisca Martey reiterates that for the 2023 rainfall season, a normal to late onset, mostly late to normal cessation, with short to normal dry spells are expected during forecast period.

According to her, generally, normal to below normal rainfall is forecasted for both MAM and AMJ over most places in the country, however, some areas in the middle portions to the transition areas of the country will experience a below normal rainfall tendency for both MAM and AMJ seasons.

Mrs Martey was optimistic that at the end of these forecasts, recommendations are made to the various stakeholders to help better minimize risks and maximize the opportunities that exist in the season.

The agency has observed atmospheric conditions over land and oceans and outputs from leading world forecast centers like the International Research Institute for Climate and Society(IRI), Climate Prediction Centre.

She advised that seems flash floods are likely to occur especially in places like Accra, Kumasi, Takoradi and some other centres across the country during the month of April to June period.

This may lead to some roads becoming impassable when it rains. Road users should be mindful when plying those roads.

She also advised drivers to refrain from driving through floodwaters.

According to her, the municipal authorities should collaborate with Meteorological Agency, Nadmo and health service to help disseminate warnings and create awareness on climate related diseases.
