Danger looms in the World as UK crosses Putin’s red line

The Accra Circuit Court has remanded an ex-soldier, interdicted policeman and driver, for allegedly robbing a nurse of mobile phone and money.

Michael Baffour, who is believed to have resigned from the army, Isaac Amejor, interdicted policeman, and Saddick Muntakilu, driver, supposedly robbed their victim of her iPhone 11 Pro max, valued GH¢9,500, and GH¢40,700 cash.

The suspects, who have denied the charge of conspiring to rob Madam Shirley Asafo Adjei, were remanded in police custody because they did not have fixed places of abode.

Their accomplice, whose identity was not known, was currently at large.

Baffour, Amejor and Muntakilu will re-appear before court on May 23, 2023, for Case Management Conference, whilst prosecution was ordered to file disclosure by May 17, 2023.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Emmanuel Haligah said that Madam Adjei, the complainant, was a nurse and a resident of Ashaley-Botwe, Accra.

The prosecution said that Baffour is a driver and a resident of Ngleshie Amanfrom, near Kasoa, in the Central Region, and Amejor, a driver and a resident of Kasoa High Tension.

ASP Haligah said Muntakilu is unemployed and a resident of Asamankese in the Eastern Region.

The prosecution said the complainant withdrew GH¢40,700 from the Ghana Commercial Bank Adjiriganor branch, for a housing project, and boarded a commercial vehicle that was moving towards Ashaley-Botwe School Junction.

ASP Haligah said at a section of the road near Ability Microfinance, Baffour, Amejor (dressed in police uniform), Muntakilu and one other at large in a taxicab, allegedly crossed the commercial vehicle.

According to prosecution, the suspects dragged the complainant out of the commercial vehicle, forced her into their taxicab and drove to a spot near the University of Ghana Medical Centre.

ASP Haligah said when the complainant shouted for help, the suspect threatened to kill her if she did not keep quiet.

The court heard that the suspects handcuffed nurse, used a taser to shock her, collected her bag containing GH¢40,700 and iPhone 11 pro max valued at GH¢9,500.

ASP Haligah said that the suspects after robbing their victim, abandoned her in the bush still in handcuff, and sped off in their taxi.

The prosecution said the complainant petitioned the Director General of the Criminal Investigative Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service for assistance and the suspects were arrested at their hideout on the Tema Motorway stretch.

When the police conducted a search, a military uniform and police uniform belonging to Baffour and Amejor respectively, were found.

ASP Haligah said investigations revealed that Baffour was a dismissed from the military, Amejor was also interdicted policeman and Mutunkilu, driver.

The prosecution said an identification parade was conducted at the forecourt of the CID headquarters where the complainant identified Baffour, Amejor and Muntakilu as the persons who robbed her.

ASP Haligah said the suspects admitted in their cautioned statements in the presence of an independent witness that, they had robbed the complainant and shared the booty.
