Traders in Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti Region have vowed not to vote in the impending 2024 general elections if authorities in the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly on behalf of the government fail to do the needful.

According to the aggrieved traders calling themselves as Combined Kumasi Central Market Traders Union (CKCMTU), they have been disappointed in the authorities after relocating them from Central Market to Racecourse.

During the begining of the Phase Two of the Central Market Project by the government, the traders say they were promised by the authorities to return them to their place, i.e Central Market.

But, to them, there is no sign of going back to the place soon as the Phase Two of the Project, per the report has been halted or suspended over reason(s) best known to the government alone.

Speaking at a press conference at Racecourse in Kumasi on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, the disappointed traders clothed in red and black charged the government to as a matter of urgency begin work at the Phase Two of the Kejetia Project (Central Market).

Threatening that, if the government fails to complete the project in due time and they remain stranded at Racecourse, they will not vote in the 2024 general elections.

“We are sending this message to the government, Ashanti Region is their stronghold and we the traders are many in the region, they should do what is expected of them to us before the general elections else we’ll not vote”, the angry traders vowed at the press conference.

They say “no market no vote in 2024”.

Don’t forget, Ashanti Region remains the stronghold of the ruling government, NPP, hence any mass decision to abort voting in the coming general elections will have huge effect on the party.
