Combined kumasi central Market traders Union (CkCMU) have called you here to put across their concern on matters related to the phase two of the redevelopment of the Kumasi Central market construction.

You will recall that, the eviction of the traders from the Kumasi Central market in March, 2021 had it’s related problems in connection with it’s timing and the inhumane treatment meted out to the occupants.

These actions were taken by the authorities of the Ashanti Region led by the regional minister, Hon Simon Osei Mensah and the then mayor Hon Osei Assibey. To them the traders had to vacate the area immediately because funding for the construction was in and that any delay will make the cash withdrawn, thereby affecting it’s construction and completion.

Traders were evicted without any place being allocated to them. It took the King of Ashanti, Otumfour Osei Tutu II through the KMA to give us a piece of land at Racecourse for these Evicted traders to find their own metal containers set up whilst others ended up in the house jobless.

Leaders of these market traders had to convince their members to exercise the needed patience so that, the construction will be completed early for their return.

Truly the construction was moving earnestly as said by authorities. Completion date for the project was given as close of June, 2024.

CONFESSION: I opened my eyes and my “PEN” was in her mouth – Gospel Artist tells it all | Details

Ladies and gentlemen, after December 2022, work on this project have come to a standstill. No sound of machines is at the site. Total reduction of work force which means no major work is being done from January, 2023 to March, 2023.

NDC under former president John Mahama constructed the phase one of the Kejetia end. The NPP under president Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo Addo have also started the phase two but when it would be completed is unknown because of the stoppage of the work.

We are calling on Ashanti Regional parliamentary members especially Hon Kwasi Konadu (Manhyia North MP), Hon Asenso Boakye (Bantama MP), Hon Matthew Opoku Prempeh (Manhyia South MP), Hon Muntaka Mohammed (Asawasi MP), Hon Eugene Boakye Antwi (Subin MP) on whose area and borders of constituencies the project is being sited.

We are asking why the halt in the project execution because as we were told, the funding is at the Bank of Ghana and work should begin soon.

Ladies and gentlemen of the media fraternity, we would want you to take this our concern to the people of Ghana and to all major stakeholders so that our sufferings for over two years for not working will be heard and addressed.

We are therefore calling on the NPP as a party and government in power to treat this our calling as their major concern because their political holding unto Powers rest on these market traders.

We will not stop our members to organize series of demonstration if nothing is heard within the shortest possible time.

Thank you for your attention and time.
