Tears flow as colleagues bury policeman who died with family in fire

It was a sorrowful moment for family, friends and well-wishers when the Ashanti Regional Police command today January 28, 2023 bid its final farewell to their colleague officer who died with his family in an inferno at his home Apromase in the region.

The late Anti-Robbery Unit member of the police service, Sergeant Owusu Asante Baafi was buried in his hometown Adomfe in the Asante Akyem South Municipality in the Ashanti region.

With uncontrollable tears from families, friends, sympathizers, colleagues, the bodies of the officer and his wife Millicent Akyaa Agyei, and their three-month-old baby, Samuel Kwabena Baafi Nyamedo were taken through a procession before burial this was after the requiem service by the Ghana Police Chaplin.

Some police officers described the young officer as hard working and dedicated to the service.

“He was a man you could trust any day, he was willing to put his life on the line to save others, and we have lost a friend and a fine officer “an officer said.

“He was selfless and hardworking, he was the life of every police operation” another intimated.

The Ashanti Regional Minister Simon Osei-Mensah was present at the funeral ceremony in the company of some senior police officers that included Director-General Legal and Prosecution, COP. Nathan Kofi Boakye and Director-General, Human Resource Development, COP Mr. Frederick Adu Anim, Director-General administration, COP Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohunu.

NPP flagbearer hopeful and MP for Assin Central Kennedy Agyapong was present with some party faithfuls.

It would be recalled that a domestic fire incident late Sunday night of 15th January, 2023 killed Sergeant Owusu Asante Baafi, his wife and their three -month-old child . He was trapped together with his family in the fire, which overcame their apartment and killed them on the spot.

The cause of the fire is yet to be established by the Ghana National Fire services that has commenced investigations into the incident.

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) George Akuffo Dampare visited the scene to assess the extent of damage and urged speedy relocation with all officers affected.
