AG can file nolle prosequi on Gyakye Quayson’s trial – Major One
I am not a lawyer, but I can say without any equivocation that if indeed, the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Mr Godfred Yeboah Dame wants peace and above all, is determined to improve upon the persistent dwindling of the public image of the NPP, he should immediately file a nolle prosequi over the Gyakye Quayson’s forgery and purjury case or trial.
The reason is very simple. If the same Attorney General’s office could drop a case against eight pro-NPP vigilante group, the Delta Force, who invaded a court of law in Kumasi in a full broad daylight or glare of the public, for lack of evidence, what is so difficult for it to drop all the five charges against the Honourable Assin North Member of Parliament? I insist that no matter what, in the coming days, the AG should present a formal notice of abandonment of all part of the suit against the one time Canadian “burgher “.

Seems like a lot of President Akufo-Addo’s commitment to the ‘rule of law’ is nothing but lip service, as the Delta Force members who rushed a Kumasi court to aid the escape of their fellow members are walking off scot-free.
Invading a court in the full glare of a judge and police officers seems like an open and shut case, but not according to our Attorney General, Gloria Akuffo.
In court today (Wednesday), the case was dismissed by the trial judge after the prosecution said the Attorney General’s office had advised the police to drop the case.
The prosecution told the Kumasi Circuit Court that the Attorney General’s Department has advised the police to drop the charges against the eight accused persons.
“This was because, the AG after examining the docket concluded that there was no evidence to prosecute the case.
“Consequently, the court presided over by Patricia Amponsah discharged the accused persons and struck out the case.
“The accused persons had pleaded not guilty and were already on bail.”
The Delta Force 8 were arrested in March after they stormed a Kumasi Circuit Court to aid the escape of their fellow members who had earlier been arrested for brutalising the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Office.
During the appearance in court of the first batch of Delta force members, the second group stormed the court, allegedly nearly assaulting the trial judge as they aided their colleague’s escape.
The 13 later turned themselves in, whilst the 8 were separately arrested later.
