STEM is Educational strategic plan not Minister’s programme – Ministry affirms
Mr. Ernest Akosah Deputy Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ministry of Education has reaffirmed that the new Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) programme been introduce in the Ghana Education Service is part of the Ghana educational strategic plan and not the Minister of Education bone fide programme to give the fundamentals in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics to the students at the Senior High School level to ensure that, they would not be waited to enter into tertiary before being introduce to the STEM which is been undertaken by the Ministry of Education to runs from 2018 -30.
According to him, the STEM programme is normal like the Senior High School (SHS) under the Free Senior High School programme with the supplying of uniforms and feeding, with only the classroom setups is a bit changes with special and well equip chemistry and biology laboratories and a compulsory English as a subject with no economies or geography subjects but purely science.
He disclosed that, every BECE candidate who is waiting for the results can apply or choose while waiting, which would taken precedent over schools one already chosen.
Mr. Akosah was of the view that, the development of any society depends on certain courses to complement humanity in economics, geography or law, and for that matter, the need to introduce the students to the STEM programme from the senior high school to enable them becomes globally competitive at tertiary level and in the job market after school.
