MAIN OUTCOME OF THE MEETING HELD WITH DG ON 5/1/23
1. GES is collaborating with the SHS to issue reopening guidelines as a result of the new wave of COVID-19.
2. DG indicated that a substantial amount of money has been released to enable schools to reopen smoothly as scheduled. He, however, couldn’t mention the quantum of money released.
3. Buffer stock as at 4/1/23 had started loading all essential food items to schools and by Saturday, food should hit all schools.
4. CHASS requested for the approved food quantities for the regions and schools as well as the approved ratio of food for the matrons.
The DG assured leadership of making them available soon.
5. CHASS requested for the approved itemized bills for payment to schools. This, he agreed to send to us.
6. CHASS insisted on the settlement of all arrears in respect of perishables and recurrent before schools reopen.
7. CHASS pushed for the extension of the date of reopening of schools by, at least, one week, to enable schools to receive food items and money to ensure a smooth reopening. DG is to confirm this request by the close of the day today.
8. CHASS leadership will come out clearly on point seven (7) above upon final feedback from DG.
8. DG concluded by pleading with Heads to use the money judiciously due to the scarcity of money these days.
9. The secretary of the Matrons Association phoned in, in the course of the discussions to register their unpreparedness to buy perishables on credit.
10. The updated information is that the Minister has confirmed that monies would be released to him today (06/01/2023) and schools accounts would be credited today, hopefully.
However, because leadership can foresee that schools cannot access these monies immediately, CHASS is still pushing for the postponement of reopening.
Any further information received would be relayed to members.
THANKS.
PRIMUS BARO
NATIONAL SECRETARY.
