Savannah Region NDC youth organiser commends Haruna Iddrisu-led minority in parliament for their fight against obnoxious policies
SAVANNAH REGIONAL YOUTH ORGANISER OF THE NDC COMMENDS THE HARUNA IDDRISU – LED MINORITY IN PARLIAMENT FOR WINNING THE FIGHT AGAINST OBNOXIOUS POLICIES AND PROGRAMMES PRESENTED BY THE NPP GOVERNMENT IN THE 2023 BUDGET
As a regional youth organizer and a party activist, I wish to commend the NDC Minority in Parliament, led by the venerable Minority Leader, Hon. Haruna Idrissu, for their successful crusade against the numerous objectionable policies put forward by the insensitive Akufo-Addo – Bawumia NPP Government in the 2023 budget.
Indeed, despite the many challenges confronting the Ghanaian people, which would ordinarily require that Government exercise fiscal prudence in 2023 and beyond in order that our crumbling economy is revived, the Akufo-Addo – Bawumia NPP Government intended to engage in a number foolhardy expenditures that will in no way bring relief to the mass of suffering Ghanaians. These intended reckless expenditures and tax measures, which the Hon. Haruna Idrissu led the NDC Minority to successfully fight include:
1) The GHS1.3 billion (€116 million) allocation for the demolition of the Accra International Conference Centre and the construction of a new structure;
2) Funds for the establishment of new diplomatic missions in Jamaica, Mexico and Trinidad & Tobago;
3) An allocation of a colossal GHS80 million as further funding for President Akufo-Addo’s National Cathedral;
4) The GHS1.4 billion mind-boggling request for the infamous Contingency Vote (which the Minority cut drastically to GHS533 million);
5) The anti-poor plan to remove the GHS100 daily e-Levy threshold;
6) A colossal GHS27.5 million allocation to the wasteful and amorphous Special Development Initiatives Secretariat & the needless Monitoring and Evaluation Secretariat all at the Office of the President (effectively leading to the virtual collapse of these two purposeless entities);
7) The repugnant tax measure intended to compel drivers, particularly commercial drivers to produce tax clearance certificates as a requirement for renewing driver’s license.
The NDC Minority Group, by scuttling these obnoxious expenditure and tax plans, has saved the Ghanaian economy and the Ghanaian people from the clutches of more hardship occasioned by the NPP Government. The Savannah Regional Youth Wing urges the NDC Minority to continue to hold this corrupt and wasteful NPP Government to it toes in order that its policies do not lead to the total collapse of the Ghanaian state as we know it. At present, the NPP Government is in freefall, and only the NDC Minority can, through its oversight powers in Parliament, prevent the calamitous collapse of our country by the NPP.
Once again, commendations to Hon. Haruna Idrissu and the NDC Minority for their valiant fight for Ghanaians in Parliament.
The youth of our great party the NDC will continue to support all efforts by the NDC Minority to fight the insensitivity of the NPP Government and put Ghana back on track.
Together with many, we continue to express heartfelt confidence and trust in the leadership of the Hon Haruna Iddrissu as the Leader of the NDC Minority Bench in Parliament
