Operation No Mercy: 4 Chanfans burnt, 4 Galamseyers arrested for mining in River
Four illegal miners popularly known as Galamseyers have been arrested by the security operatives for mining in River Mamie in Wassa Amenfi East Municipality of the Western Region.
Four Chanfans have also been burnt into ashes by the taskforce.
The suspects were arrested during “Operation No Mercy” to fight illegal mining in the area.
The operation was initiated by the Municipal Chief Executive, Fredrick Korankye with the support of the local taskforce.
The operation taskforce also burnt four chanfans which were being used for the illegal mining.
The suspects were handed over to the police who would arrange them before court today, October 19, 2022.
The MCE, Fredrick Korankye, speaking to the media said, the operation is going to be continued so he’s appealing to the chiefs and the good people of every community for their full support in him to fight against those who are mining on the River bodies.
Finally, he stated that anyone who would be arrested during this operations will face the rigors of the law.
