New cocoa price: Gov’t not ready to fighting “galamsey” – Worried Cocoa Farmers
Disturbed Cocoa farmers in the country,Ghana, have stated that, the government is not ready to fight galamsey (illegal mining activities”.
Almost all the Cocoa Farmers across the country are convinced that, the government is not committed to fighting the canker.
They made these statement known to the press after government through Cocobod announced new price for the season, 2022/2023.
Cocobod on behalf of the government has pegged the 2022/2023 cocoa price at GHc800.00 per bag.
Reacting to the issue, the disappointed cocoa farmers said they are not happy with the price, saying it is too small.
They disclosed that, because the price is not enough to sustaining the living standard of the farmers, cocoa farmers will continue to cut their cocoa crops and sell their lands to “Galamseyers” for illegal mining activities.
