New Yam festival to showcase Igbo culture to the Diaspora; says HRM Dr.Ihenetu, Eze Ndigbo Ghana
As the 10th anniversary/ Igbo Day and New Yam festival in Ghana scheduled to take place on September 18th gathers momentum, the chief host and Eze Ndigbo Ghana, HRM Eze Dr. Chukwudi Ihenetu has declared that the event which has already gained series of endorsements from world bodies like UNESCO, Cultural bodies.
Like His Excellency John Kufuor, His Excellency, John Mahama and corporate bodies promised to showcase best of Igbo Culture before the international community.
In a letter of recognition signed by Ghana Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture and presented to the Royal Father, it says in part:
According to “His Royal Majesty, Eze Dr. Amb Chukwudi J Ihenetu, the king of Igbo community in Ghana wishes to celebrate his 10 years Anniversary, since his coronation and crown the event with Igbo Day/New Yam festival.
“The New Yam festival is a highly captivating art event. The colourful occasion is a visual spectacle of coherence, dance, joy, and feasting for community members to mark the end of the cultivating season.
“Over the years, the festival has attracted all calibers of visitors, such as traditional rulers, government officials, as well as tourists from within and outside Ghana.
The Ministry endorses the Ten year coronation of His Royal Majesty and the Igbo Day/ New Yam festival and wishes them well”.
In a similar manner, His Royal Majesty, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru11, Ga Mantse and President of the Ga traditional council in endorsement letter signed by the revered traditional council, said:
“The festival which is in the tenth year, has become a cultural bridge between the Igbo culture and our culture which share many similarities.
Most importantly, the Igbo New Yam Festival strengthens and consolidates for posterity, African traditional cultural practices”, it says.
