New Juaben South: MP Launches Ghc200,000 Special Classes for BECE Candidates
Hon. Michael Okyere Baafi, Member of Parliament for New Juaben South Constituency in the Eastern region, has organized a free special classes for 600 final-year students in basic schools in the constituency ahead of this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in October.
The programme financed according to the MP is estimated at about gh¢200,000 formed part of measures he has instituted to provide adequate preparation for the candidates in the four core subjects.
These are Mathematics, English, Science and Social Studies.
According to the MP, the only legacy he wants to leave for the teeming youth of New Juaben South Constituency is quality education.
Hon. Michael Okyere Baafi made this announcement to Afeema FM’ journalist, Kaakyire Kwasi Afari on Saturday, 3rd September, 2022 when he launched the phase 2 of “the MP’s Special Classes 2022” at the Full Gospel Church in Koforidua.
The move is to get teachers and experienced Examiners to organized extra classes for both Private and Public school candidates to enable them pass the 2022 BECE.
Mr. Michael Okyere Baafi who’s is to be a huge advocate of education at the launch of his initiative said, he’s also poised to change the education dynamics through ICT for schoolchildren to learn how to operate computers as the country had migrated to a digital and technology oriented state.
The MP disclosed that, almost all his budget is geared towards investing in education and training for the betterment of Koforidua indigents.
This, according to him, makes the biggest investment made in the sector as a first term member of Parliament, indicating that the investment was part of his “New Koforidua Projects” which is estimated to bring a complete transformation to the constituency.
The MP said, his promises are not mere rhetorics but evidence based citing the donation of computers and accessories to Agavenya R/C Junior High School, Koforidua M/A Basic School, RIIS Presbyterian Basic school, AME Zion Basic School and other Schools in New Juaben South to enhance the knowledge of information communication and technology.
Most basic schools within the municipality, according to the MP, did not have good infrastructure, computers to learn ICT therefore, his office is determined to address such phenomenon through available means.
Hon. Baafi used the opportunity to charge the BECE Candidate to burn their midnight candle ahead of the examination.
For her part, Madam Adwoa Amarh Asante, the Chief Inspector of Schools for New Juaben South speaking to Kaakyire Kwasi Afari, she expressed her appreciation to the MP for the good works that he was doing to improve the standard of education in the municipality.
Meanwhile, she reveals that Koforidua has suffered in education because for the past years, the municipality have not seen good grades coming in with regards to the BECE.
Notwithstanding, she gladly indicates that, but until the MP’s special classes enrolled in 2021, the municipality saw an unprecedented improvement and she is optimistic that this year’s good performance will not be tempered.
Tracey Bosompimaa Danquah, a student of Trinity Presby Model School in Koforidua, indicated that, she was motivated by resources personnels who came to the launch to lecture them on carrier guidance.
Byron Christian, a student of the same school says he’s all prepared for the exams and promised to make a good outcome of the special classes sponsored by the MP.
