Ghana Museum CEO urges Ghanaians to promote domestic tourism
The Chief Executive Officer for Ghana Museum and Monument, Mr. Kingsley Ofosu Ntiamoah has revealed that Ghana’s tourism industry is having challenges because of the low patronage.
However, he added that the industry has a long way to go in the quest to project it to the global market.
To this end, the CEO has charged Ghanaians to take delight in domestic tourism to have a lifetime experience through visiting tourist sites at least once every week to contribute to the development of the industry.
Mr. Kingsley Ofosu Ntiamoah made the call in an exclusive interview with Afeema FM journalist, Kaakyire Kwasi Afari on Thursday, 25th August, 2022.
He counted that the patronage will not only generate revenue for government, but will also ensure the sustainability of the Tourism Industry and ensuring President Nana Akufo Addo’s vision of making tourism industry the country’s highest Gross Domestic Products a reality.
The Chief Executive Officer reveals that President Nana Addo through his vision to revive the sector, has launched a US$10 million grant to support small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs) in the tourism, hospitality and creative arts industry.
According to Ofosu Ntiamoah, the US$10 million grant aims to support businesses in the sector to bounce back, expand, and create jobs to support the growth of the country’s economy.
Improving adequate security at some notable tourist sites across the country, he said, the Tourism Ministry has strictly beef up measures with scanning devises putting in place to scan all visitors to avert crimes.
When asked about plans putting in place to facilitate better roads leading to tourist sites, the CEO indicated that the government has allocated funds to fix poor roads in famous tourist sites in the country.
According to him, government has already started fixing some roads leading to the area but a lot has to be done.
The lack of investment to facilitate better road infrastructure as well as good communication among others in Ghana has compelled tourists, especially foreigners to shy away from sector.
