Footwear Dealers in the Ashanti Region have threatened to lay down their tools and embark on a sit down strike.
The workers of “Nkoko Adwosuo”(chicken lane) Footwear Manufacturers Association in the Kumasi Metropolis of the Ashanti Region numbering over 7,000 members have called for a press conference to lament on the collapse of their business to the government to come to their aid and hear their greivances.
They said, “It seems the government has not seen us in the system because the cost of most of the materials we use has increased and has caused our business to fall”.
Addressing the media by their Chairman, Mr Ebenezer Amaniapong (Mr President), said, the cost of their raw materials always keeps on increasing day in day out due to cedi depreciation.
He added that, they also contribute more in the development of the Ghana economy but the government has denied them in every policy.
Furthermore he said, until the government listens to their grievances and pay heed to their request, they are going to put their tools down for a while thus “SIT DOWN STRIKE “…. and join the street which won’t be beneficial to the country.
