Diabaa: Military Base, Forestry Commission Office Set Ablaze By Irate Youth
A military base and an office of the Forestry Commission have been set ablaze by irate youth.
The incident happened at Diabaa in the Dormaa West District of the Bono Region on Tuesday, 23rd August, 2022.
Speaking on Silver FM in Kumasi today, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Dormaa West, Hon. Francis Kojo Oppong told the host of the show, Nana Kwabena Ampratwum that, officials from the forestry Commission after noticing illegal invasion in the forest reserve by some residents went to the forest and cut down the crops, specifically, plantation.
Together with their guards and the support of Military men did the act.
The cutting down of the crops from the forest reserve infuriated the youth in the community to attacking the security personnel.
He said, attempt by the authorities to calm down nerves on the part of the Irate Youth and stop them from attacking the officers proved futile.
They aggrieved youth blocked roads and burnt tyres to block the security personnel from escaping on order to carry out what they were intended doing.
Hon. Francis disclosed on the show monitored by Filasconews.com that, the Irate Youth proceeded by setting ablaze a newly constructed military base by Government in the area and the office of the forestry Commission.
He opined that that the personnel from the Ghana Army managed to escape from the attack but later came in their numbers to retaliate.
“My brother, if I wasn’t there at that time, the youth would have severely suffered under the hands of the angry Soldiers”, the DCE revealed during the interview monitored by Filasconews.com on Wednesday, August 24, 2022.
He added that, the authorities will make all perpetrators are brought to book.
