Ghana is doomed under the uncontrollable illegal mining activities – Professor Piesie Anto

Retired educationist and also a chief elect at Krom Adwafo in the Bosomtwe district of Ashanti region, Obenfo Nana Osei Piesie Anto has made a statement that, Ghana is doomed under the illegal mining activities in the country.

He mentioned that, the activities of the illegal mining in this country seems to be unconcerned to almost all the stakeholders since almost all our water bodies and forest reserve are being destroyed by the above mentioned activities.

He explained further that, the destruction of the forest and the water bodies also affect everything within it including lives and such actions must be stopped immediately.

Mentioned how the late Nana Wiafe Akenten II, the immediate past paramount chief of Offinso vowed not to allow this illegal activities on the Offin river and also warn his sub chiefs to desist from it and not to also allow anyone in it and no one was able to go there but just a short period after Nana Wiafe Akenten II joined his ancestors, about eight hundred ( 800 ) chanfine machines was found and destroyed on the Offin river recently which has turned the river into milo like solution which is very dangerous to the nation’s health system.

He called on his fellow chiefs not to allow people to invade their areas unlawfully being politicians or anybody because chief’s are in care of the lands and needs to do anything to protect it from being destroyed and also called on other stakeholders to come together to fight against this illegal mining to keep the country safe.
