Black Spikers of Ghana make strides at Africa Cup of Nations

Head Coach of Ghana’s National male Volleyball Team, Black Spikers, Abdul-Rahman Danladi says, Ghana has what it takes to win the ongoing African Cup of Nation Volleyball – Zone 3 tournament in Abidjan, in Ivory Coast.
Six countries, including the host nation, Ivory Coast are participating in this year’s tournament. Others are Mali, Niger, Burkina-Faso, Benin and Ghana.
Ghana’s male and female National Volleyball Teams won gold in the last edition and so went into this year’s tournament as defending champions and highly rated to defend the title or grab other medals.
The tournament started on Thursday August 4 and Ghana’s female team beat their opponent from Benin by 3:0 in their first match. Ghana whipped Benin 25 : 09 in Set 1. Set 2 saw Benin becoming strong but still lost 28 : 26. Set 3 recorded 28 : 26.
Two players from Yendi based Fusion Volleyball Club, Rahma Abubakari and Asana Iddrisu contributed immensely to the victories.
Unfortunately, Ghana’s male Team lost to Mali by 3 : 0 in their first match. Lost by slim margins in all three sets. Set1 – Ghana 24 : 26 Mali, Set 2, Ghana 23 : 25 Mali, Set 3 Ghana 26 : 28 Mali.
Head Coach, Abdul Rahman Danladi is hopeful that the men’s team will recover strongly to win their next match and the ladies will continue winning their matches, to bring glory to Ghana.
“We are the defending champions both men and women and for that matter all the teams are targeting us, but I know we will bounce back even stronger than before and the women will also continue their winning ways to retain the trophy.” Coach Rahman Danladi said.
Ghana’s male and female team will play Niger female and male teams in their second match on Friday, August 5 at Abidjan.
