A former Assemblyman for Diara South electoral area of the Savelugu Municipality in the Northern Region has received praises for his showmanship.
According to reports, single-handedly exchanged faced armed robbers numbering ten who had raided a community and were going away with five motorbikes.
Reports say the former Assemblyman received a distress call from a friend that ten young men suspected to be armed robbers, wielding riffles with five motorbikes crossed the river and pass through Adayili a fishing community, and were heading towards Diara.
The friend who called him said when he confronted the armed robbers, they threatened to kill him so he had to call on the former Assemblyman who gave the robber a wild chase.
The robbers were said to have opened fire on the Assemblyman when they spotted him but he responded in a similar fold and shot at two of the robbers.
Luckily, they left two motorbikes but carried their injured colleagues deep into the forest.
Narrating the issue to Tamale-based Diamond FM, the Assemblyman said “this morning around 6:20 am in the morning, I received a call from a friend at Adaayili a fishing community to the effect that some people had crossed the river with canoe with motorbikes. Upon questioning them where they were heading with five motorbikes, they threatened to kill him if he dare questioned them again. Through to their words, they pulled out AK47 riffles and fired a warning shot and the scene with the motorbikes”.
He further explained that “the river is a short distance from the next community but because my friend wasn’t on a motorbike, he had to run back to alert the community members about what was happening. And before he got to the community they had already fled. He placed a call to me. By then I was in Diara town. So, I quickly rush back in a bid to intercept them on the way. Fortunately, on my part, I met them at top speed with the stolen bikes. So, I stopped in the middle of the road and saw them pulling out riffles and opening fire on me and I responded. And, in the process, one of them sustained gun wounds and they fled, leaving one motorbike”.
“I pursued them to a community called Tunayili. We exchanged gunfire again, and I managed to shoot another one who his colleagues carried away with gunshot wounds, enabling us to rescue another motorbike. I pursued them to a thick forest along the road, and they manage to escape. All the two motorbikes are with currently with me in Diara”, he added.
