Angry Chiefs Fight Government Over Attempt to Mine in their Reserved Forest
Chiefs of Effutu Traditional are up in amrs with Minerals Commission for allegedly given their forest reserve to a mining company, Green Metal Resources for lithium prospect.
According to the Chiefs, the forest was reserved by Nananom to hunt Deer for the celebration of Aboakyere Festival annually.
They have therefore vowed not to relent on their efforts to grabbing the forest back.
The Traditional Authorities in Winneba say they will reject any move from Minerals Commission or any outfit to carry out mining activity in the reserve.
They stated in a press briefing yesterday that, any attempt will be fiercely resisted by the Traditional rulers in the area.
Reports indicates that, Green Metal Resources, a mining company has been authorized to engage in a large scale mining activities in the Yenku Forest reserve and the Aboakyere festival hunting grounds.
The place allocated to the mining company includes a ramseyer site with birds and wildlife of different species while the place has two streams that serve as source of fish for the people of Winneba.
Addressing the Press Conference, armed with red arm bans and clothes, Omanhene of Effutu Traditional Council, Nenyi Ghartey(VII) called on Minerals Commission and President Nana Addo to stay away from Winneba.
He said they will no not allow them to destroy their forest as it’s has happened in part of the country.
Some angry youth also expressed their readiness in support of their Chiefs to fighting the course.
They revealed all these in an interview with Power FM’s reporter, Emmanuel Adjetey.
