” Your action was Unprofessional” – Vice President to Police on Islamic School incident
The Vice president of the Ghana National Council for Zongo Chiefs, Alhaji Omar has expressed worry about the Ghana Police Service and the unprofessional manner used to disperse the demonstrating students of Islamic Senior High School at Abrepo in the Ashanti Region last week.
He says looking at the stage and the physical strength of the students who were mostly women embarking on a harmless demonstration, he believes the Ghana Police Service could have exercise restrain instead of firing gunshots.
Alhaji Omar bemoan how the Police always act in a bias manner by deploying full force of personnel at Zongo during conflicts, creating the impression that people of Zongo are violent, a tag he described as false.
He appeals to the security agencies and the media to stop describing them as violent people.
This negative tag is unfair and not representative of things happening in the Zongos and the country at large, he lamented.
Mr. Omar who is also the president of the Eastern Regional Council for Zongo Chiefs maintained that Zongo youth are hard working class of people and do not indulge in idle ventures including perpetrating violence.
The chief is calling on the public and the media to avoid abusive, divisive and disrespectful comments that present people living in Zongo communities as lovers of criminal activities.
He revealed that, the Muslim community in Ghana considers such comments highly divisive and unfortunate and condemns same in no uncertain terms.
Alhaji Omar believes that journalists must be ethical in their profession to help unite both Christians and Muslims rather than dividing the people of this country during prime hours on air.
His comment came after he claimed some journalists choose to using abusive, divisive words and rained insults on Muslim communities in relation to the incident that occured at the Islamic School which suggest that people living at Zongos are only known for violence and filth!
