A/R: Poultry Farmers Angry With Government Over Hardship In Busines
Poultry farmers in the Ashanti Region has described the current state of the industry as a “life and death situation” warning that the likelihood they may soon be thrown out of business.
This, they say has come about as a result of the shortage of maize which is currently rocking the country, government has boasted of huge investments into the food sector through its flagship Planting for Food and JOBS Programme.
The Farmers say they have had to spend huge sums of money to keep their birds alive as scarce maize prices soar;
According to the Former National Chairman of the Poultry Farmers association, Mr Kwadwo Asante of K Asante Farms Ltd described the rampant increase in the cost of inputs as unprecedented and strangling the poultry industry in Ghana.
His comment comes after government response on Adomtv Asukodo documentary on poultry. He revealed that poultry farmers has not received any loan or obaatanpa grant from government.
Adding that, the Agric minister Hon Afriyie Akoto has failed the poultry farmers and must be sacked immediately.
Speaking in an interview with Asona Dehyie Kwarteng, some farmers expressed that over 80% of poultry farms in the region have stopped operations all because of a lack of basic inputs such as maize and soya.
