Gov’t Urged Not To Relent In Efforts To Protect Water Bodies

The founder and leader of Saviour Light In Jesus Ministry, Osomafo Mensah has urged government to continue put in place stringent measures to control illegal mining activities that polluted water bodies and strengthen sanctions on illegal mining (galamsey) activities in the country.

Osomafo Mensah made the appeal when he delivered his new year message today according to the biblical (God’s) calendar in the month of April.

Osomafo added that the government needed the support of all Ghanaians to ensure the protection of the country’s forest and water bodies.

Osomafo added that Ghana may soon import drinking water from neighbouring countries if illegal mining is not checked.

According to him, Ghana may soon lose all of its water bodies if care is not taken.

He said the pollution of the water bodies was not carried out by illegal miners alone but also those who had permits to mine but not following the laid down guidelines and regulations.

The man of God said most miners who had permits were not following the rules and questioned where such miners deposit their tailings.

Osomafo also appealed to the government to create job opportunities for the youth to serve as an alternative to dissuade them from illegal small-scale mining to destroy the environment in the name of making a living.

The founder of Saviour Light In Jesus Ministry appealed to the government to pursue without any fear or favor in the whereabouts of the tailings of the small scale miners as part of efforts to protect the water bodies.
