Ursula to ‘stubborn academy’: Keep being stubborn, you’ll feel the pinch

On Sunday, the minister announced that the sim registration exercise has been extended to 30 September as Ghana seeks to build a credible and safe sim database

Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the Minister of communications and digitalisation, has advised persons who have been reluctant in registering their sim cards, also referred to as the stubborn academy, to take advantage of the new grace period.

On Sunday, the minister announced that the sim registration exercise has been extended to 30 September as Ghana seeks to build a credible and safe sim database.

Appearing on The Asaase Breakfast Show on Tuesday (2 August), Owusu-Ekuful warned the public to comply with the directive to register their sim cards or risk losing vital services.

“I have news for them (stubborn academy), if by the end of [September] they have not registered their sims, they will find out that it is more expensive to use unregistered sim cards than to use the registered one,” the minister said. “Then they will begin to feel the pinch.”

“There are some services that they can’t access on their devices and their top ups will disappear much faster than those who have registered. So, they can keep being stubborn and we will keep doing our work,” Owusu-Ekuful said.
