You Have No Moral Right To Criticize The Government If You Don’t Pay Tax – MCE Fumes

The Municipal Chief Executive of the New Juaben South in the Eastern Region, hon. Isaac Apaw Gyasi, has lash-out critics to stop unnecessary criticism and support the government by regularly paying taxes and property rates, to support developmental projects in the country.

According to the MCE, assembly uses income from taxes and the property rate to support projects in the municipality, adding that, tax defaulters have no moral authority to backlash the government for non-performance.

To this end, only taxpayers are expected to hold the government accountable, he indicated.

He noted that the irregular payment of taxes has affected the development of the municipality and Ghana at large, and that the assembly would put in measures to ensure the payment of taxes.

The MCE made this known to Afeema FM’s journalist Kaakyire Kwasi Afari, on Monday, 18th September, 2022, when the Municipal Chief Executive led a team from the Assembly to engage residents in some selected electoral Areas on how to accelerate development in New Juaben South.

Isaac Apaw Gyasi indicated that tax payment is very pivotal in the development of the Municipality and hence people should know that payment of tax is their obligation to the government.

He further caution all House owners and business owners within the Municipality to pay their basic rate and land poll.

When questioned about the rationale behind the visit to the areas, the MCE said it was imperative for leaders to engage their residents to solicit views and suggestions on how to tailor development to suit the interest of the people.

He explained that, development demanded a collective approach, saying every citizen must endeavour to contribute their quota as far as development was concerned.

The meeting brought together officials of the Assembly, assembly members, unit committee members, traditional leaders, health workers, landlords association and residents from Magazine, Anlo-Town North and South electoral Areas.

Concerns discussed includes; roads, inadequate school infrastructure, intermittent water supply, toilet facilities, speed ramps, street bulbs, footbridge, social security amongst other social amenities.

The Assembly member for Anlo-Town North, Benard Acheampong said he was happy the engagement provided the citizenry opportunity to directly present their challenges with efforts being made by the Assembly to tackle such challenges that needed to be addressed collectively.

The hon. Abu Amadu the Anlo-Town South assembly member, for his part, also noted that in spite of the numerous projects undertaken by him, there was still a huge gap to meet the demands of residents and called on the MCE not to relent on its effort to address them.

The Municipal Chief Executive have so far toured 17 Electoral Areas out of the 34 electoral Areas in New Juaben South.
