Ghana records Two Cases of Monkey Pox Virus in Eastern Region

The deputy director of public health at the New Juabeng South Municipal Health Directorate, Dr John Ekow Otoo has revealed to Afeema News that, the Region has recorded two confirmed cases of the deadly *monkey pox* virus in one of the 33 Districts in the Eastern Region.

Mr Otoo will however not disclose the name of the District that recorded the case but said the victims are students of an undisclosed schools and are kids, one is three and the other is one and half years respectively

That, the cases were recorded on Wednesday May, 30 2022 tested on Thursday and confirmed on Friday with contacts being traced as one of the parents whose samples were taken have shown symptoms and undergoing treatment, He told Obaapa Florence in interview on Afeema radio.

Mr John Otoo says the mode of transmission is same as COVID-19 with 21 days mutation period and can result to death without detection and treatment thus all safety protocols of the COVID virus must be reinforced with immediate effect across the Region.

He calls on the public to exercise restraint as health professionals are investigating to unravel any mystery regarding the virus.

The deputy health director also disclosed that, the Eastern Region has recorded confirmed cases of the Hanz Influenza (H3N2v) in nine (9) out of thirty -three (33) Districts where the victims are all under treatment.
